Guthrie County Fair Board to hold 2018 fundraising supper
Anyone who has been out to the Guthrie County Fairgrounds recently has seen that change is happening. Last summer alone, the fair board replaced two new livestock barns, and more improvements to other buildings are in the works. To continue making renovations possible, the Guthrie County Fair Board will hold their 2018 Guthrie County Fair Fundraising Supper on March 3 at the event center located on the fairgrounds.
Social hour will begin at 5:00 p.m., and dinner will start at 6:00. Dinner will include three meat options and multiple side options.
Following dinner, there will be a live auction, conducted by Laughery Auction, and six games of chance, including such favorites as Yahtzee, Crack the Safe and Half Playing Card. Guests will also be able to bid on silent auction items throughout the night.
The fundraising event began four years ago, when the fair board was looking for funds to pay off the new event center. Thanks to the success of previous fundraisers, the debt on the building has been lowered from $103,000 down to $29,000.
“It’s been supported very well,” said fair board member Keith Buttler, who helps organize the event. “The beauty of this is that it’s a county-wide fundraiser, and it’s also a county-wide facility. If we have anything close to what we’ve done the previous three years, we should be able to pay the building off this year.”
Even though the building is almost paid for, the fair board will continue to hold fundraisers to support new improvements at the fairgrounds, including paying off the remaining debt on the two new livestock barns.
“We’ve got a tremendous amount of updates that need to be done around the fairgrounds, like some of the campground electrical stuff, bathhouse upgrades and improving our livestock and 4-H barns,” said Buttler. “This is just one of a bunch of steps along the way.”
A limited amount of $25 tickets are available for the event, and very few tickets remain. If interested, please contact any fair board member for additional details. Anyone unable to attend is welcome to send a monetary donation in support of the Guthrie County Fair. Donations are tax deductible, and all businesses or individuals donating items or money for the event will be listed on the supper’s program.
“As long as the community continues to support it, we’re going to keep trying to improve what we’re doing down at the fairgrounds,” said Buttler.
