Donnie Buttler

Donnie Dean Buttler was born in the little town of Fansler in Guthrie County, Iowa on New Year’s Eve at the home to Alfred and Mary Buttler during a blizzard.  Donnie road into the sunset from the Panora Rehab Center following a lingering illness at the age of 74.
He grew up along the Middle Raccon River enjoying fishing, hunting and horses - a true cowboy at heart. He attended country school at Victory township until High School where he met and started dating his lifelong friend and companion of 55 years, Sandra L. Benton.
After graduating Guthrie Center High School, Donnie and Sandi were married July 14, 1961 at the local Baptist Church.  They raised three children, Kristina, David and Jamie.
Donnie spent most of his life in manufacturing management and a few years working a construction business with his two brothers.  After retiring, Donnie pursued his love of hunting by creating a hunting and shooting preserve called The Flying B, that operated for 12 years just north of Guthrie.  There, he participated in another love - meeting people that came from all over the United States, sitting and shooting the breeze.  He loved to hear a good story just as much as he loved telling a good story.
Donnie had a great love for his kids and his grandkids. He looked forward to the days he could take them hunting for anything from deer and squirrel to mushrooms. If it wasn’t hunting, then it was grabbing the fishing pole to go do some catfishing.  On cold Iowa nights and weekends, Donnie enjoyed playing card games, cribbage, Farkel and reading his Louis L’Amour books.  Ask him what he wanted or needed for Christmas or birthday and it was always the same answer “I want my kids and grandkids to come home and see me”, and it didn’t matter that they’d just spent the day together.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Loraine Benton, his daughter, Kristina Hunt (David Sr) of Guthrie Center, his two sons, David Buttler (Kim) of Adel and Jamie Buttler(Katrina) of Guthrie Center, eleven grandchildren, David M Hunt Jr, Nichole Hunt, Trever J Hunt, Tayler M Hunt, Jessica Stiles (Tom), Cody Buttler, Kari Fulk (Kevin), Alix Guillaume, Gaige and Chase Buttler and Heather Dixon, seven great grandchildren with one on the way!  Donnie is also survived by his younger brother Terry Buttler (Connie) of Yale and a niece and nephew.
Donnie was proceeded in death by his parents Mary Catherine Sipe and Alfred Marion Buttler, his older brother Jimmie Buttler and  nephews, Randy and Rodney Buttler.
