Doris Irene Rossow, 97, daughter of Fred and Minnie (Rasmussen) Schar, was born October 3, 1917 on a farm north of Storm Lake, Iowa.  She passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Community Care Center, Stuart, Iowa.
She graduated from Truesdale High School and earned a two-year Kindergarten Primary Degree from Drake University in 1937.  She taught at Roland, State Center, and Humboldt, Iowa.  In 1945, she married Harold Blair Rossow. To this union two sons were born, Hal and Robert. Doris taught Kindergarten in Rockwell City for 25 years and Blair worked for Iowa Public Service for 33 years. They retired in 1982 and moved to Panora, Iowa.
She was active as a pianist for the Panora United Methodist Church and served as secretary of the United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle.  She was past matron and 50 year member of the Silver Lake Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Rockwell City. She served as organist for the Linden Chapter O.E.S. and transferred her membership to Linden.  She was active in the Panora Women’s Club, serving as President. She was a member of the Rockwell City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Harold “Hal” Rossow of Panora and Robert Rossow of Summerfield, FL; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister Barbara Elliott.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Blair in 2010, brothers Warren, Wendell, Bill, Arthur, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at Twigg Funeral Home in Panora with a visitation at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place and in the springtime of 2015 there will be an entombment of her cremains next to her husbands cremains at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Panora Public Library.
