Mark A. Johnston
After a courageous battle with cancer, Panorama principal Mark Johnston passed away surrounded by his family on December 3, 2015 at the age of 45. Mark leaves behind his wife and true love, Danielle Johnston; their son, Mitchel; and daughters, Paige and Emma.
A celebration of Mark’s life was held Monday, December 7 at Panorama Secondary School.
Mark was born on June 17, 1970 to Dennis and Nancy Johnston of Jamaica, Iowa. He grew up in Bayard, Iowa in a loving Christian family with his 3 younger brothers; Craig, Steve, and Ryan. Mark married Danielle McKinney on August 6, 1994.
Mark was a dedicated educator and leader with a true passion for serving his school and community. He poured himself into everything he did. Mark was always encouraging others to strive to do their best. Mark looked for the good in every situation. He genuinely cared about people and his students. He was a great listener and friend to many.
In Mark’s spare time he enjoyed spending time with family, cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones, boating on Lake Panorama, coaching youth sports, driving his 1924 Model T, telling jokes and stories, traveling with Danielle, and serving as an elder at Faith Bible Church.
We are thankful to have had Mark in our lives, even if his stay was not long enough. We are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind, which will be seen daily through his beautiful children and through our wonderful community that he so greatly impacted. He has taught us all so much.
Contributions may be made to the Mark Johnston Memorial Fund. The family would like to thank the community for their unwavering support and continuous prayers. Mark knew he was loved; your prayers held him up. Now the Lord lifts him up to heaven.
