ELVA JUNE GIBSON
Elva June Gibson, 95, of rural Panora, daughter of John and Lela (Pennington) Hall, Jr., was born April 27, 1919 in Highland Township, rural Guthrie County, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the New Homestead in Guthrie Center.
She attended her grade school years at the same school all eight years, Highland Township #9, then went her freshman year of high school at Audubon and then the three remaining years at Guthrie Center High School, graduating in 1937. She was an avid sports fan, having been a member of the first ever champion state basketball team from Guthrie Center in 1937. She followed her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors in high school and college. Elva June taught school in the one room rural schools. She was united in marriage to Chester Gibson. Her favorite item for relaxing and necessity was her sewing machine. She made many of her clothes and her hobby of making quilts. Elva June has always loved her children and grandchildren. She was a charter member of the Sunshine Club and was a member of the Morrisburg Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chester, brothers Cleo and Ronald Hall, sister Margaret Rubel, and an infant sister Elsie.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Gibson; son, Larry Gibson; grandchildren, Janine, Wade, Kristi, Annette, and Gregory; 3 step-grandchildren, sister-in-law Essie Hall, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 2, at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial will be in Morrisburg Cemetery, rural Stuart. Visitation will be an hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the New Homestead, Alzheimer Unit, Guthrie Center.
