WILLIAM DAVID STANLEY
William “Bill” David Stanley, 68, passed away December 31, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Bill was born November 12, 1946, in Des Moines to Vincent and Mildred (Leigan) Stanley. The family moved to Herndon where Bill attended Jamaica School and graduated from YJB Community School. He attended Ellsworth Community College and then Iowa State University. He married Vicki Hoyt on June 25, 1965. They moved to Bayard and he started farming with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. To this union, three children were born.
Bill loved being a farmer for more than 30 years and loved raising cattle, especially showing cattle with his son. He was active in 4-H, Lions Club, Masons and Za-Ga-Zig Shriners, Westside Ranchers, the Corn Kings where he played the clarinet and he loved to golf. Bill was able to lighten a room with his sense of humor.
He felt his greatest accomplishment was his children. He always looked forward to their sporting events and other activities. They were his pride and joys.
On November 1, 2008, Bill married Sharlyne (Charlie) Houdek and lived in Rapid City, SD, where he made many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Charlie; his children, Troy (Rhonda) Stanley and Michelle (Dan) Laughery, both of Bagley; his step-children, Tami (Mike) Nelson and Todd (Shelly) Herman, both of Arizona; his grandchildren: Dylan, Gavin and Leigan Laughery, Caleb Stanley, Joe (Hallie) Dressler, Aftan McMartin, Danica Nelson, Trey and Taylor Herman; his sister, Jodi Sutton; aunts, Norma Milligan and Esther Clouse; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann; his parents and his grandmother, Leila Leigan, who he was very close to.
Per his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015, 2 - 4 p.m. at the Jamaica Community Building.
