Charger girls have 0-4 week on hardwood

The AC/GC girls basketball team suffered four losses on the hardwood last week.

The Chargers (3-13 overall) dropped contests with West Central Valley (45-26), CAM Anita (57-48), Panorama (61-34) and Des Moines Christian (55-22).

The Chargers will travel to Urbandale to face Des Moines Christian on Friday, January 27. They host Madrid Monday, January 30.


Poor shooting haunted the Chargers in a 45-26 loss to West Central Valley on January 17. The Chargers were 22 percent from the field on 9 of 40 shooting, including just 1 of 9 from beyond the arc. Madison Berger scored six points to lead the way for AC/ GC. Mady Smith and Morgan Meacham each chipped in five points. Savana Fuller pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds. Smith grabbed six and Rachel Courtney four. Berger dished out three assists and Meacham snagged three steals. The Chargers trailed 25-11 at the break.


Madison Berger poured in 21 points and added seven rebounds, give assists and five steals for AC/GC in a game against CAM Anita on January 19. The Chargers fell 57-48. Mady Smith added six points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Chargers. Lauryn Embleton had five points and three boards. Rachel Courtney added four points, six boards and three steals. The Chargers were 19 of 69 from the field, connecting on 6 of 40 from behind the threepoint line. They made 4 of 8 foul line shots.


AC/GC couldn’t overcome a slow start and fell to ninth ranked Panorama on Friday, January 20, 61-34. The Chargers found themselves down 23-8 after the opening quarter and faced a 35-16 halftime deficit. Madison Berger scored 12 points for the Chargers. Both Chelsey Larsen and Morgan Meacham had five points. Meacham pulled down six rebounds, while Savana Fuller and Olivia Laabs grabbed five apiece. The Chargers were 10 of 43 shooting, hitting 3 of 15 from long-range and 11 of 19 at the foul line.


Held to single digits in each quarter, the AC/GC girls basketball team suffered a 55-22 loss to Des Moines Christian at home on Monday, January 23. Junior Morgan Meacham scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Chargers, who trailed 33-12 at the break. Cold shooting continued to hamper the Chargers, who were 8 of 47 from the field, including 1 of 21 from the three-point line. They made 9 of 13 free throws. Both Savana Fuller and Leigan Laughery grabbed four rebounds. Mady Smith had four assists.
