Charger girls open outdoor season strong

Led by a pair of double winners, the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center girls track and field team opened the 2017 outdoor season strong March 27 during the Greene County Early Bird in Jefferson.

Sophomore Savana Fuller sprinted to first place finishes in both the 200 and 400 meters. She anchored the sprint medley relay team of Reagan Rumelhart, Mady Smith and Olivia Laabs to the gold medal.

Freshman Kate Crawford, who won the state cross country championship last fall, crossed the finish line first in both the 3000 and 1500 meter runs. She ran runnerup in the 800 meters.

Laabs and Mady Smith ran third and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Smith ran to a second place finish for the Chargers in the 400 hurdles.

Madison McDermott had a pair of top 5 finishes in the throws for the Chargers, taking second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

“Ran and tossed well for the first outdoor meet,” AC/GC head coach Dave Spratte said. “Missing some key runners with foot injuries. Hope to get these gals back soon.”

The Chargers return to action on March 30 in Perry.
