“Tonight was a great dual situation as far as how the teams stacked up against each other,” said Tiger head coach Shawn Danker. “Everyone was pretty even and that’s just fun wrestling for us. We gave up three open weights tonight due to forfeits so that kind of hurt us in those close duals, but that’s the way things go sometimes when you don’t have a full lineup.”
After the first round of action, Danker was recognized for winning his 300th varsity dual meet as head coach on Tuesday over Coon Rapids-Bayard. This season marks his 17th year as the Tiger’s skipper. Danker, who boasts a 301-124 record, becomes the 40th coach in Class 1A Iowa high school history to reach 300 wins.
With the sweep, the Panthers finish conference dual meet action as undefeated West Central Conference Champions. The individual West Central Conference Tournament will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27 at West Central Valley.
“I did a lot of point-scoring scenarios over and over this week to see how we could match up with these teams tonight,” Panther head coach Jason Kirtley said. “We had an injury at 126 over the weekend so with another open weight we’re giving up, I knew it would come down to who was odd and who was even throughout each dual. It all ended up playing into our hands perfectly and it worked out great for us tonight.”
