170 pounds of drugs and hundreds of guns seized in central Indiana crackdown

INDIANAPOLIS — A central Indiana law enforcement organization is focused on removing illegal firearms from the streets to enhance community safety.

Since 2021, the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) has been working to make central Indiana safer by targeting those involved in violent crime.

“We will continue to take illegal firearms out of the hands of individuals committing violence against our citizens,” said IMPD Lt. Jered Hidlebaugh of ICGTF during an interview with WRTV.

The task force consists of nearly a dozen law enforcement agencies across central Indiana, all collaborating to target serious offenders and keep them off the streets.

“489 illegal firearms have been removed from Fishers’ streets. About 64% are tied to violent crimes in Indianapolis. Their suspects are our suspects; their criminals are our criminals,” stated Fishers Police Chief Ed Gebhart.

IMPD reports that this year alone, the task force has made over 230 arrests, seized more than 270 illegal firearms, and confiscated nearly 170 pounds of illegal drugs.

The task force emphasizes the importance of these partnerships in making the community safer.

“Even if it feels like an endless race, it’s one worth running and continuing until I can no longer run,” said Lt. Hidlebaugh.
