Amherst College is facing a lawsuit for allegedly violating Massachusetts’ Wage Act by paying exempt employees once a month, even though the law mandates that employees be paid semi-monthly or bi-weekly unless they choose to be paid monthly.
The lawsuit, filed by three former employees, claims that this policy led to delayed payments and resulted in millions of dollars in wages being withheld over the past three years.
The plaintiffs argue that the late payments caused financial hardship and increased monthly bills. Amherst College maintains that it has complied with the law and defends its payroll practices.
The lawsuit seeks damages, including unpaid wages, attorney fees, and a change to the college’s payment policy.
