Arizona lawmakers are taking action to ensure full-time RV and motorhome residents have protections similar to those offered to homeowners.
State Senator Frank Carroll introduced SB1540, a bill designed to close a loophole following a 2024 court ruling that excluded motorhomes from the protections of the Homestead Act.
This bill would safeguard individuals’ homes, including RVs, houseboats, and other non-traditional dwellings, from repossession during bankruptcy proceedings, as long as they are the primary residence.
This move is particularly important for people like Mary and Steve Drummond, who lost their RV after filing for bankruptcy despite it being their only home.
If the bill is passed, it will provide crucial legal protections for those who live outside traditional housing structures.
