The Big Levels fire has been determined to be “human caused” and is currently under investigation, as stated by Jim Bartlett, the public information officer for the U.S. Forest Service.
At this moment, no additional details are available.
Recent updates indicate that the fire’s spread has been halted, aided by precipitation and high humidity. The total acreage affected by the fire stands at 1,965, with containment at 25 percent. Over 94 personnel are actively engaged in firefighting efforts in Augusta County.
Crews are working to enhance containment lines, cold trailing sections of the fire perimeter, and conducting brushing operations along the Bald Mountain Jeep trail.
Today, staff will continue their efforts along Coal Road and the fire perimeter, checking lines and evaluating the impact of rainfall. Others will utilize this tactical pause to refurbish tools and equipment while taking time to rest. Closures remain in effect in the fire area.
