Cathy Justice Reflects on 8 Years of Service as West Virginia’s First Lady

Cathy Justice, the First Lady of West Virginia, gave her final remarks on Wednesday as she prepared to transition from her role as the governor’s wife to new endeavors in Washington, D.C.

During her speech at the State Capitol, Justice reflected on her eight years of service and highlighted her involvement in initiatives such as Communities In Schools and Friends With Paws, which provided vital support to students and families across the state.

Justice presented the Rhododendron Award for the final time, honoring Margaret Ann O’Neal, the President of United Way of Central West Virginia, for her tireless work in strengthening communities.

O’Neal’s leadership and dedication to service, including her significant contributions to the Bowers Hospice House, were recognized as embodying the values of the award.

O’Neal expressed her gratitude, noting that nonprofit work often goes unnoticed, and appreciated the honor of being recognized for her behind-the-scenes efforts. Both Justice and O’Neal have been integral to the Communities in Schools program, contributing significantly to the state’s community-building initiatives.
