U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley has outlined his legislative priorities for 2025, following the start of the 119th Congress. As the newly appointed President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Grassley, alongside Republican Majority Leader Sen. John Thune, is poised to take on pivotal leadership roles in shaping the future of U.S. legislation.
Grassley will resume his position as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, with a focus on maintaining the independence of the federal judiciary, overseeing the Department of Justice, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, and managing judicial nominations, including those for district and circuit courts as well as the Supreme Court.
Grassley’s legislative agenda also includes key priorities such as border security, extending the Trump tax cuts, lowering drug prices, and restoring regular order to the federal budget process. He plans to address these issues through his leadership in the Senate Judiciary, Finance, Budget, and Agriculture Committees.
Grassley’s efforts will center on securing the U.S. border, reducing violent crime, preventing significant tax increases, restoring pro-growth business provisions, and advocating for a new five-year Farm Bill.
As President Pro Tempore, Grassley joins an exclusive group of constitutional officers, a role previously held by only one other Iowan, Senator Albert B. Cummins, in the early 20th century. Grassley encourages constituents to stay engaged and share their views on these critical issues as he navigates his leadership roles in the 119th Congress.
