Colorado Department of Corrections Investigator Arrested on Felony Assault Charges

James Michael Lusk, a criminal investigator with the Colorado Department of Corrections’ Office of Inspector General (OIG), has been arrested on several felony charges following an alleged assault at his home on February 4.

The charges include second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury, second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor harassment.

Lusk is accused of forcing his way into a bedroom and violently assaulting a family member during an argument, resulting in serious injury. The alleged victim reported that Lusk punched them multiple times, breaking their nose.

Lusk has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. If convicted, he could lose his law enforcement credentials in Colorado. His attorney declined to comment, and Lusk is scheduled to appear in court for a formal return filing of charges.

Given his position in law enforcement, this case raises concerns about accountability within the Department of Corrections, especially for officers involved in investigating criminal activity.
