Connecticut Faces Surge in COVID-19, Flu, and RSV Cases Post-Holiday: What You Need to Know

The increase in virus activity following the holidays has raised concerns among public health officials in Connecticut, with rising cases of COVID-19, flu, and RSV in hospital ERs. The Connecticut Department of Public Health has reported a surge in these illnesses, which is typical during this time of year.

The CDC’s wastewater data indicates that COVID-19 levels have reached high levels in the state, and experts suggest that people are unknowingly spreading the virus, as many are not testing, especially if their symptoms are mild.

With over 200 COVID-related deaths so far this season, many of the affected individuals are older adults, many of whom are not up to date on vaccinations. Public health experts emphasize the importance of getting vaccinated, particularly for those over 80, recommending both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines for the best protection.

In addition to vaccination, public health leaders are urging people to get tested if they feel sick, practice good hygiene, and wear masks in crowded or high-risk areas. The community is also reminded that a seemingly mild illness for some could pose greater risks to others, and it’s important to avoid close contact with vulnerable populations.
