On Christmas Day, Drew Johnson, a convicted murderer, was captured after escaping from a Mississippi prison the day before.
Johnson, 33, had escaped from the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville on Christmas Eve. Authorities described him as “very dangerous” and “desperate.” He was found near the prison on Christmas Day.
Before his capture, local officials warned the public to stay cautious during the holiday season, as people may lower their guard.
Johnson is serving a life sentence after admitting to several violent crimes. He pleaded guilty in 2022 to the 2016 stabbing death of an acquaintance in Memphis, where he stabbed the victim over 20 times and left the body in a field. While in prison, Johnson also attacked another inmate in 2021 and set multiple fires in 2019.
Johnson is also facing murder charges in Rankin County, Mississippi.
