The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas FHLB Dallas recently awarded a $100,000 grant to North Mississippi Rural Legal Services NMRLS through its member Community Bank to help resolve heirs’ property issues in North Mississippi.
The grant aims to clear titles for homes in the area, which is especially important after the March 24, 2023, EF-4 tornado that left over 1,500 homes and businesses damaged or destroyed.
This funding will help residents affected by the storm, particularly those with unclear property titles, who may face challenges in securing insurance or financial aid for repairs.
The Heirs’ Property Program, designed to address issues with property inherited without legal documentation or a will, will provide legal assistance at no cost, allowing families to clear titles and begin rebuilding their lives.
FHLB Dallas and its partners awarded a total of $2 million in grants across 33 organizations in its five-state district in 2024, helping an estimated 560 properties and assisting over 5,670 people with education and training on heirs’ property issues.
Community Bank, which has a strong presence in the region, emphasized the positive impact this program will have on the community, restoring stability and hope to those affected.
The FHLB Dallas, with its long history of supporting housing and community development, continues to offer valuable resources to help residents rebuild after natural disasters and resolve complicated property ownership issues.
