The Georgia Republican Party’s State Executive Committee has voted to expel former Republican Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan from the party, officially severing his ties to the GOP. The decision, made on January 6, coincided with Congress certifying the electors for President-elect Donald Trump.
Duncan’s expulsion follows a series of allegations, including claims of undermining Republican candidates, endorsing Democratic opponents, and leveraging his GOP affiliation for personal gain.
The resolution includes accusations that Duncan worked against key Republican candidates, such as Burt Jones and Herschel Walker, while supporting Democratic contenders.
His public endorsements of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election are also cited as violations of party loyalty. The party demanded that Duncan stop using his Republican credentials in public and media appearances.
Duncan, in response, criticized the decision on X formerly Twitter, expressing disbelief at the party’s focus on expelling him instead of addressing more pressing national issues.
The resolution also forbids Duncan from running as a Republican candidate in future elections and expunges his previous nominations for GOP positions.
Furthermore, the Georgia GOP has called for media outlets to refer to him as an “expelled Republican.”
