Gov.-elect Matt Meyer has nominated Joshua A. Bushweller, a seasoned Delaware State Police official, to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security. Bushweller, who joined the Delaware State Police in 1997, brings over two decades of experience, including his current role as state police intelligence commander.
His background includes leadership positions in cyber and homeland security, disaster response, and criminal intelligence.
Meyer praised Bushweller’s dedication to protecting Delaware’s citizens and his proven track record in enhancing public safety, emphasizing his ability to lead with integrity. Bushweller will oversee critical areas such as emergency response coordination, counterterrorism efforts, cybersecurity, and infrastructure protection.
His past contributions include developing programs to reduce crime, improve neighborhood assistance, and increase educational outreach, particularly in schools.
In addition to his extensive law enforcement experience, Bushweller holds a master’s degree in management with a focus on public administration and a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.
He also graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and beach time with his family.
