Governor Jim Pillen to Undergo Surgery for Broken Ribs in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. KOLN – The Governor’s Office provided an update on Wednesday about Governor Jim Pillen’s health.

The Governor’s broken ribs are now the main concern for his recovery. After discussing his options with his doctors, Gov. Pillen has decided to have a procedure to stabilize the broken ribs using metal plates. This procedure will help his ribs heal more effectively, manage pain better, and lower the risk of further issues.

Doctors believe this is a good option for Gov. Pillen, considering his health and active lifestyle. Nebraska Medicine is known for its expertise in rib fixation surgeries.

The Governor’s recovery is going well, and there are no new concerns about his kidney, lung, or spleen injuries. His spleen is healing after a procedure he had shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

The surgery is scheduled for later Wednesday afternoon and will take about four hours. Afterward, the Governor will stay in the hospital for a few more days to recover and be monitored.

Since Gov. Pillen will be under anesthesia, Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly will take over as acting Governor during the procedure, as required by the Nebraska Constitution.

More details will be shared after the surgery and once the Governor has spoken with his doctors.
