Governor Lujan Grisham Breaks Ground on $16 Million Amador Crossing Apartments in Las Cruces

At the groundbreaking of the Amador Crossing Apartments in Las Cruces on January 8, 2025, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham highlighted the ongoing challenges surrounding affordable housing in the U.S., pointing to rising housing costs, low supply, and insufficient prioritization.

This new 50-unit supportive housing complex, located on the campus of Mesilla Valley Community of Hope, will offer vital services for unhoused people, including food assistance, healthcare, and case management, all within walking distance.

The project, which is expected to cost nearly $16 million, is funded through a combination of contributions from the City of Las Cruces, the state Mortgage Finance Authority, and capital outlay funds secured by the governor and state lawmakers. The remaining gap of approximately $4 million will cover the final construction costs and necessary improvements, including solar power installations.

Rep. Micaela Lara Cadena, a key figure in securing funding, emphasized the efficiency of this unique partnership, with the City of Las Cruces serving as the fiscal sponsor for community organizations involved in the project.

The project aims to address the state’s affordable housing shortage, with additional funds expected to be allocated for behavioral health care and housing initiatives in upcoming state budget discussions. The construction is slated to be completed in about 18 months.
