A strong cold front is moving through northern Florida, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms. The rain, with some thunder, is moving from west to east quickly, soaking areas from Cedar Key to Jacksonville.
The bigger story is the cold air coming in behind the front. Overnight, much of the Southeast, Gulf Coast, and northern Florida will see unusually cold temperatures in the low to mid-30s. Because of this, the National Weather Service has issued frost advisories and freeze warnings for tonight into tomorrow morning for much of the Florida Panhandle and north Florida.
There are also frost and freeze warnings in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and the southeastern corner of North Carolina. Temperatures in these areas will drop below freezing tonight and into tomorrow morning.
Looking ahead, a very cold pattern is expected to continue for the next couple of weeks, with more waves of cold, arctic air likely coming in mid-December. There’s also a chance of snow in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during this time.
