The survey conducted by The Economist/YouGov reveals that newly-elected Senate Majority Leader John Thune R-S.D. remains largely unknown to the American public, including many Republicans.
About 56% of respondents said they don’t know enough about him, with 50% of Republican voters unaware of his leadership.
His favorability stands at only 19%, while 25% view him unfavorably. Thune’s top priorities as Senate leader include preserving the filibuster, defense spending, border security, extending tax cuts, and deregulation.
This comes as Thune takes over from Mitch McConnell R-Ky., whose favorability is significantly lower, with 60% of respondents viewing him unfavorably. The survey, conducted with 1,552 adults, has a margin of error of 3.4%.
