Justice served: 40-year-old sex offender receives 37-year sentence for child exploitation

A 40-year-old man from Beltsville, Maryland, has received a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of coercing and enticing a minor into sexually explicit conduct, as well as engaging with a minor while registered as a sex offender.

Following a three-day trial, a jury determined that between January and June 2021, Brian Patrick Werth communicated with two minor females, aged 11 and 15, using internet applications such as WhatsApp and Kik.

During these exchanges, he persuaded and coerced the minors to produce sexually explicit videos of themselves. Additionally, Werth’s actions constituted child sexual abuse, as he was already listed on the Maryland Sex Offender Registry due to a previous conviction.

As a result of his actions, Werth has been sentenced to 37 years in federal prison, with an additional 25 years of supervised release for two counts related to the production of child sexual abuse material. Upon his release, he will be obligated to register as a sex offender in any location where he lives, works, or studies under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

The presiding judge also mandated that Werth must avoid contact with individuals under the age of 18 without prior permission and submit to monitoring of his computer use.
