Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks has been reelected in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. A recount confirmed her narrow win over Democrat Christina Bohannan, with Miller-Meeks leading by fewer than 1,000 votes—less than 1%.
The recount was funded by the state because of the close results. This victory adds to Republican gains in the U.S. House and keeps Iowa’s congressional delegation entirely Republican.
Miller-Meeks, who previously represented Iowa’s 2nd District, will continue serving eastern Iowa. Bohannan, who conceded the race, emphasized her campaign’s focus on economic fairness and working across party lines. Miller-Meeks’ team criticized the recount, calling it a waste of time and money.
In Davenport’s House District 98, Democrat Monica Kurth kept her seat after a recount confirmed her 45-vote win over Republican Nathan Ramker. The recount didn’t change the original results.
In another close race, Democratic State Senator Sarah Trone Garriott held onto her seat in central Iowa. A recount increased her lead over Republican Mark Hanson from 24 to 29 votes. Hanson, a member of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, has not yet conceded.
