Over the past ten years, Mountain View’s minimum wage has nearly doubled. In 2015, it was $10.30 per hour, after the City Council passed a law to gradually raise the local wage. Between 2016 and 2018, the minimum wage increased in steps until it reached $15 per hour. Since 2019, the city has raised the minimum wage every January based on the local inflation rate.
Mountain View’s minimum wage applies to employers who have a business license or a facility in the city. It also applies to employees who work at least two hours per week in Mountain View, whether they are adults or minors. Tips are not included in the wage.
Employees who believe they are not receiving the correct minimum wage are protected from retaliation. They can file complaints with the city or take legal action if their rights are violated.
Mountain View’s minimum wage is higher than in nearby cities. Starting in January, Palo Alto and Los Altos will have a minimum wage of $18.20, while Sunnyvale will match Mountain View’s rate of $19.20.
