prince william county police make major breakthrough in murder of egypt carter, indict four

DALE CITY, Va. — Prince William County Police have announced significant updates in the murder investigation of 23-year-old Egypt Zapporah Carter, who was fatally shot in Woodbridge earlier this year. On Monday, authorities indicted two additional men, raising the total number of suspects in the case to four.

The investigation uncovered that Carter’s husband, 34-year-old Lionel Melvin Carter III, orchestrated the plot to kill her while he was incarcerated. The scheme involved several individuals: 26-year-old Grorethas Gresean McKinnon Jr., 30-year-old Denzel Scott Wade, and 27-year-old Drew Courtney Buchanan. These men were either directly involved in the murder, present at the scene, or assisted in organizing the crime.

The murder occurred on February 2, when Carter was lured to the area of Bronson Court and Brickwood Drive in Woodbridge under the guise of picking up prescription narcotics for her husband. Once there, she was ambushed and shot while sitting in her car.

On Monday, a Grand Jury issued indictments against Lionel Carter, McKinnon, Wade, and Buchanan. All four suspects, who are currently in custody on unrelated charges, now face counts of aggravated murder, use of a firearm in a felony, and conspiracy to commit murder. Wade and McKinnon were indicted alongside Carter and Buchanan, who had been arrested earlier in October.

Egypt Zapporah Carter, originally from Burlington, North Carolina, has been the focus of this ongoing investigation. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.

All suspects remain in custody as they await their court appearances. Anyone with further details is encouraged to contact the Prince William County Police Department.
