Senator Peter Welch Praises Pam Bondi’s DOJ Nomination Despite Trump Concerns

In a recent interview, Senator Peter Welch D-VT offered a positive assessment of Pam Bondi, Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Justice. Speaking with CNN Capitol Hill correspondent Manu Raju, Welch praised Bondi for doing a good job during her confirmation hearings.

Welch downplayed concerns that Bondi would be overly influenced by Trump, noting that every president typically seeks someone they “feel comfortable with” in such an important position.

While he acknowledged Bondi’s performance at the hearings, Welch expressed reservations about Trump’s potential to target political opponents. He voiced concerns over Trump’s past threats to go after figures like Jack Smith and Liz Cheney, especially in light of the questions Bondi faced from Senate panel members regarding her stance on such actions.

Bondi assured Senators that any potential charges would be based on an independent investigation and a factual assessment of each case.

This echoed previous remarks by other Trump nominees, like Kash Patel, who vowed to target those involved in prosecuting Trump during his trials or members of the January 6th committee.
