Severe Snowstorm Closes Major Highways Across Colorado, Causes Multiple Accidents

Snow created hazardous driving conditions across Colorado on Saturday, leading to multiple road closures and accidents in the mountains and the Denver metro area.

Vail Pass and westbound Interstate 70 east of Aurora were both closed as of 4:45 p.m. Colorado 119 through Boulder Canyon, which had closed earlier, has since reopened, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Westbound Interstate 76 near Barr Lake and southbound Interstate 25 near Owl Canyon Road, north of Wellington, also reopened after temporary closures.

Meanwhile, U.S. 6 remains closed in both directions near Loveland Pass following an avalanche on Friday that stranded multiple drivers.

Several law enforcement agencies, including Denver police, placed the region on accident alert due to numerous collisions. On eastbound I-70 between Rifle and Glenwood Springs, a driver rear-ended a parked Colorado State Patrol vehicle, further impacting traffic.

Additionally, a multi-vehicle crash closed northbound Parker Road in Aurora for about 45 minutes Saturday afternoon.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution as wintry conditions continue to make travel dangerous.
