People across Metro Atlanta and north Georgia are preparing for severe storms expected overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
A strong line of storms is set to arrive early Sunday, with a slight chance of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. The storms are expected to bring heavy rainfall, starting in west Georgia around 3 a.m. and reaching metro Atlanta just before dawn.
This storm system is the first to threaten the region since Hurricane Helene in late September, following a long period of calm weather. While October saw only a trace of rain, 2024 has already been one of the wettest years on record in north Georgia.
Residents, like Janasthisa DeJesus from Buckhead, are bracing for gloomy conditions. The storm could cause flash flooding, topple trees, and disrupt power lines.
However, many, like Chris Harper and Emmanuel Park, are opting to stay off the roads and wait out the storm. The heavy rain is expected to move out by Sunday afternoon, bringing some relief to the region.
