South carolina woman pleads guilty to DUI in crash that killed newlywed bride

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. — A South Carolina driver, Jamie Lee Komoroski, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges connected to a tragic crash that killed a bride and seriously injured her groom as they left their wedding reception. Her sentencing is expected soon.

Komoroski admitted guilt just before her trial was set to begin. She pleaded guilty to felony DUI resulting in death, two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily harm, and reckless homicide. The crash happened in April 2023 when her car collided with a golf-cart-style vehicle carrying the newlyweds.

The couple, Samantha Miller, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, had been married for just five hours. Their cart, decorated with a “just married” sign and cans, was struck by Komoroski’s car. Sadly, Miller was killed, and Hutchinson suffered serious injuries. Two other passengers from the wedding party were also hurt.

When the judge asked if she was pleading guilty because she was indeed guilty, Komoroski responded, “Yes, your honor.”

The court heard emotional statements from Miller’s family members, including her parents and sister. Komoroski, visibly upset, cried as the victims shared their pain.
