The recent shift in ownership of Southeastern Grocers from Aldi to a private investor consortium, including C&S Wholesale Grocers, marks a significant change in the landscape of grocery retail in the Southeast.
This sale includes the retention of approximately 170 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi, as well as Winn-Dixie’s liquor store operations.
The move comes less than a year after Aldi acquired Southeastern Grocers and converted some stores to the Aldi format. Despite the sale, Aldi will continue to convert around 220 stores by 2027.
Under the new ownership group led by CEO Anthony Hucker and C&S Wholesale Grocers, Southeastern Grocers plans to invest in and reimagine its store offerings, focusing on growth and community engagement.
This partnership emphasizes a commitment to long-term development and an enhanced customer experience.
Customers will continue to see these changes unfold, with new management overseeing daily operations of the stores while conversion plans progress over the next several years.
