State Sen. Kim Hammer Announces Candidacy for Arkansas Secretary of State in 2026 Election

State Sen. Kim Hammer, R-Benton, has announced his candidacy for Arkansas Secretary of State in the 2026 election. Hammer, who has served in the Arkansas State Senate since 2019 and previously in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018, expressed his commitment to continuing public service. He emphasized his experience working with both legislative and administrative branches to benefit Arkansans.

If elected, he plans to focus on maintaining the integrity of the election process, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and preserving the state’s Capitol grounds.

Governor Sarah Sanders appointed Cole Jester to finish the term of former Secretary of State John Thurston, who is now the state Treasurer. Jester is not eligible to run for the position in 2026, and no other candidates have announced as of now.

During his tenure in the legislature, Hammer has worked on election reform initiatives. He pledged to collaborate with county clerks and election commissioners to ensure smooth elections in Arkansas.

Hammer also pointed to his “pro-business record” and vowed to reduce government red tape. He also noted his commitment to the upkeep and safety of the Capitol grounds.

Hammer represents Senate District 16, which covers parts of Saline County and southwestern Pulaski County. He currently serves as the chair of the Senate Efficiency Committee and holds memberships on several other legislative committees.

In addition to his legislative work, Hammer is the pastor of the Saline Missionary Baptist Church in Tull and has been in ministry since 1978. He and his wife, Karen, have three children.
