A Tennessee man, Benjamin Cook, is facing six counts of aggravated assault after allegedly firing shots at a family of six sledding in the snow, claiming they were on his property.
The incident occurred on Friday in the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive, where the family had been playing outside when they heard gunshots from a nearby house on Birchwood Pike.
The mother reported seeing snow flying near her one-year-old son, prompting the family to shout at Cook to stop shooting.
Cook asserted that the family was trespassing on his property, but the family insisted they were not. After the encounter, the family returned home and reported the incident to authorities.
When deputies arrived at Cook’s home, they spoke with him and obtained images from a neighbor showing him carrying a rifle in the woods, wearing clothing that matched the description provided by the family.
Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
