Tyson Foods has announced the closure of another plant.
The food processing company revealed on Monday that its Emporia, Kansas facility will shut down in February 2025.
Over 800 employees were informed of the decision through a letter.
“After carefully considering our options and the impact of this difficult decision, Tyson Foods regrets to inform you it must permanently end all operations and permanently close its Emporia, Kansas facility,” Ernesto Sanchez, vice president of operations for beef and pork, stated in the letter obtained by Topeka Capital-Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network.
According to a WARN notice posted by Kansasworks on Monday, the closure affects 809 employees. WARN notices, required by federal law, aim to provide workers with advance notice of closures or mass layoffs, giving families time to transition.
The letter indicated that the plant’s expected closure date is around February 14, 2025.
“We are also working closely with state and local officials to provide additional resources to those who are impacted,” a Tyson Foods spokesperson told the Capital-Journal.
“Taking care of our team members is our top priority, and we encourage them to apply for other open roles within the company,” the spokesperson added.
