Vandalism Threatens Snow Canyon State Park Natural Beauty and Operations

Snow Canyon State Park in Southern Utah, a beloved destination for both locals and visitors, is facing increasing vandalism issues.

With only three full-time staff members, the park is struggling to keep up with the rising number of incidents. One recent example was the detonation of a powder cannon, which led to a significant cleanup effort for the park’s small team.

The park has been experiencing frequent acts of vandalism, including the disposal of cigarette packs, smashed pumpkins, confetti cannons, and scattered flower petals, according to Devan Chavez, a public information officer with Utah State Parks.

These acts often require hours of work to clean up, diverting staff from other essential duties.

This ongoing issue not only hampers the park’s maintenance but also detracts from the experience of respectful visitors who come to enjoy its natural beauty.

As the park becomes increasingly popular, the Utah Department of Natural Resources is urging anyone with information about recent incidents, such as the powder cannon event, to contact the park at 435-628-2255.
