Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has unlocked $1 million in state funding to support the recovery efforts of communities impacted by a bomb cyclone that struck Western Washington in November.
The funding, accessed through the state’s Individual Assistance Program, will help with short-term housing, home repairs, and other critical needs. This assistance is targeted at residents in King, Snohomish, and Whatcom Counties who suffered significant damage from the storm.
The bomb cyclone, which hit on November 19, caused widespread destruction, including fallen trees, snapped power lines, and widespread power outages. Tragically, at least two people lost their lives due to falling trees.
To qualify for assistance, residents must meet specific requirements: they must live in one of the affected counties, have a household income below 80% of the area’s median income, and provide evidence of major damage caused by the storm, among other criteria.
For example, a family of four in King or Snohomish counties must earn no more than $111,000, while in Whatcom County, the threshold is $84,450.
