Chattanooga Public Works has confirmed that Tennessee American Water identified a water main leak in the southbound lanes at the center of the intersection of Shallowford Road and Tunnel Boulevard.
Shallowford Road will be fully closed in both directions. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted via Gillespie and North Germantown Roads, while westbound traffic will follow detours on Moss Street and Greenwood Road.
Tunnel Boulevard will remain open in both directions but will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection. Portable traffic lights will manage access to Shallowford Road.
Previous Update: A water main break occurred Monday morning, shutting down the area around Shallowford Road and Tunnel Boulevard.
The westbound lanes of Shallowford Road are particularly affected.
Tennessee American Water crews are on-site to begin repairs, though no estimated completion time has been provided. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes where possible.
